Sketching in Art


We had art this afternoon with Mary Lou. She helped us brush up on our sketching skills so that we are ready to take on whatever we may find on the nature trail. As you can see we sketched a cricket. Most of us had no idea that crickets breathe using spiracles along the side of their bodies. Also, crickets use an organ on their front legs to hear. Each of us started sketching the cricket's head first. Then we moved onto the body. A few times we had to revise our drawing to make sure that all the body parts fit just right. It was almost like a puzzle. When we were finished sketching we made a title using at least one text feature and used bullet points to jot down some notes. Enjoy looking through all our sketches.

    I really liked the cricket gallery. I thought it was fascinating how every picture was a little bit different and a little bit alike at the same time. Thanks for posting all of them.
